The Regional Office of the World Disability Union held a ceremony honoring the departments that implement environmental standards for people of determination and distributed their certificates of accreditation as friendly bodies for people with disabilities, applying the highest global environmental standards for the disabled.
The honoring ceremony was witnessed by Dr. Tariq Sultan bin Khadim, Vice President of the World Disability Union, Chairman of the Board of Directors of AlThiqah Club for Disabled, Khaled Jassem Al Midfa, Chairman of the Commercial and Tourism Development Authority, Abdullah Khalifa Al Sabousi, Head of the Department of Islamic Affairs, and Dr. Abdul Razzaq Ahmed bin Rashid, President of the West Asian Union, and representatives of the authorities those who have obtained the certificate.
Dr. Tariq Sultan bin Khadim expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to the honorable authorities for their great role in providing friendly environments for the disabled persons, pointing out that what is being achieved today of great interest in providing a decent life for the disabled stems from the interest of the wise leadership of the emirate and the support of the champion of the disabled His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, who gave persons with disabilities a lot of attention and rights through legislation that guarantees their rights, as well as community awareness of the care they deserve, in order to facilitate all the services they need, which are suitable for their various disabilities.
Bin Khadim added: “With the spread of the culture of disability-friendly environments, which the UAE government has adopted through many projects to improve the services provided, it was necessary for these service standards to be united by one umbrella, instead of each party having its own standards, which may not be the same as presented. On the other hand, and this is what we sought to present through the office of the World Disability Union, so that those standards conform to the highest international standards.
The ceremony began with honoring the members of the evaluation committee, namely Haider Talib Aerbah, Chairman of the Evaluation Committee, Engineer Tina Mark, Vice President of the Evaluation Committee, Buthaina Taher Jaradat, Committee's Reporter, Abdel Nasser Brahami, Usama Abu Nahle and Mahmoud Abdel Razek, members of the Committee, and Nasir Ahmed for Logistic Services, then honoring the recipients Certificate of the World Disability Union, they are the Department of Islamic Affairs represented by Ahmed bin Hanbal Mosque, Al-Huda Mosque, and sports clubs represented by AlThiqah Club for Disabled, Khorfakkan Club for Disabled, the Tourism Development Authority represented by Centro Sharjah Hotel and Sheraton Sharjah Hotel, and the commercial centers represented in Oasis Mall with its branches in Sharjah and Dubai.
Haider Talleb Aerbah, Secretary-General of World Disability Union and Chairman of the Evaluation Committee said: “The committee’s work continued for more than three continuous months, during which we visited many private and government agencies. That all public institutions and facilities adhere to it, in order to provide a high-end service that allows easy integration of this segment of society, and a high-end service that helps them easily meet their needs, in addition to enjoying their normal life without hindrances.
