DEAZ has a philosophy of Independent Living amongst persons with disabilities.
Independent Living is a philosophy and a movement of people with disabilities
who work for self-determination, equal opportunities and self-respect.
“Independent Living” means that people with disabilities have access
to the same life opportunities and the same choices in everyday life
that their non-disabled brothers and sisters, neighbors and friends
take for granted. That includes growing up in their families, being educated in the local
neighbourhood school, using the same public transport, getting employment that is in
line with their education and skills, having equal access to the same public goods
and services and starting families of their own.
